Product Overview

The 1747-SN is a Remote I/O (RIO) Scanner Module designed for the SLC 500 programmable controller system. It enables communication between the SLC processor and remote I/O chassis (e.g., 1746 I/O modules) or other RIO-compatible devices (e.g., drives, operator interfaces) over a Remote I/O link (RIO) .

Key Features

1. RIO Communication:

   • Supports 4 logical racks (32 input + 32 output words) of discrete I/O data transfer .

   • Can transmit up to 64 words via block transfers (B-series and later) .

   • Max distance: 3,048 meters (10,000 ft) using Belden 9463 shielded twisted-pair cable .

2. Hardware Features:

   • RIO Link Connector: 3-pin male connector (replacement part: 1746-RT29) .

   • Status LEDs:

     • FAULT LED (red): Indicates configuration errors or hardware faults.

     • COMM LED (green/red): Shows communication status with RIO devices .

   • DIP Switch: Configures baud rate (57.6K, 115.2K, or 230.4K baud) .

   • Backplane current: 600 mA @ 5V DC.

   • Operating temp.: 0°C to +60°C (32°F to 140°F) .

Installation & Wiring

Key Steps :

1. Power Off before installation.

2. Insert Module into the SLC 500 chassis (Slot 0 reserved for the processor).

3. Connect RIO Cable:

   • Use Belden 9463 shielded twisted-pair cable.

   • Terminate both ends with 82Ω (57.6K baud) or 150Ω (115.2K/230.4K baud) resistors.

   • Ground shield only at the scanner end (to prevent noise interference).

4. Configure DIP Switch for the correct baud rate (must match all RIO devices).

RIO Network Topology

• Daisy-chain configuration (serial connection).

• Max nodes: 32 devices (or 16 if legacy devices are present) .
