The ICSO16N1 is a remote output module (slave unit) under the Procontic CS31 system, providing 16 digital (binary) output channels for controlling field actuators (e.g. relays, contactors, valves, indicator lights, alarms, etc.). The module communicates with the central controller via the CS31 bus, enabling distributed output control and decentralized wiring architecture.
Number of outputs: 16 channels
Output type: Transistor (binary) outputs
Output voltage / supply: 24 V DC (0.5 A per channel) — also available in versions for 230 VAC or 120 VAC supply / output depending on variant
Max current per channel: 0.5 A
Total output capacity (all channels): up to 8 A (for 24 V DC version, 16 × 0.5 A)
Protection: Short-circuit protection and thermal overload protection per output channel
Power consumption / dissipation: For AC supply versions approx. 10 VA; for DC versions relatively low power consumption
Communication interface: Procontic CS31 bus (RS-485 based) — remote output control via bus
Bus cycle / response time: CS31 bus cycle for ICSO16N1 is about 340 µs — ensures timely output switching
Mounting method: Plug-in remote unit on dedicated base (plug-in base), compatible with DIN-rail or panel / cabinet mounting
High-density 16-channel output — efficient control of multiple actuators
Suitable for controlling many relays, valves, lights, alarms or other binary output devices with a single module.
Flexible supply / output versions (DC or AC) — adapt to various field requirements
Depending on variant, module supports 24 V DC or 230/120 V AC, making it suitable for a wide variety of industrial and facility applications.
Protection on each output — enhanced reliability and safety
Short-circuit and overload protection help safeguard both the module and connected devices.
Distributed I/O via CS31 bus — simplified wiring and installation
Output module can be located near field devices, reducing wiring length and complexity, and facilitating system layout for distributed control.
Fast response time — suitable for time-sensitive control operations
With a bus cycle of around 340 microseconds, output switching is fast enough for many real-time control tasks.
Modular, plug-in design — easy installation, maintenance, and expansion
Simplifies module replacement, system expansion, and reduces downtime or rewiring efforts.
Industrial automation lines — controlling relays, contactors, solenoid valves, indicators, alarms, motor starters, etc.
Equipment control cabinets — centralized control over multiple actuators, lights, alarms, safety devices
Fluid / pump / valve control systems — pump start/stop, valve open/close, flow path switching, process control in water treatment, chemical plants, utilities
Building automation / facility management — lighting control, HVAC control, alarm and signal output, door control, building equipment control
Distributed control systems (DCS / PLC + remote I/O) — suitable for systems where actuators are spread over a wide area, needing decentralized output modules for efficient wiring and control
System upgrades or expansions — adding output capability to existing Procontic CS31 systems without requiring full rewiring
Verify correct supply / output voltage version (DC or AC) before installation to match field load and power supply.
Check load current and total output capacity — ensure connected devices do not exceed 0.5 A per channel or 8 A total (for DC version), or appropriately distribute load across multiple modules if needed.
Ensure proper wiring and grounding / shielding — use suitable cables, separate power/output wiring from signal/control wiring where needed to reduce interference and improve safety.
Power off before module installation / replacement / maintenance — avoid hot-plugging while energized to prevent damage or hazard.
Plan CS31 bus layout and module addresses carefully when multiple remote units are used — maintain stable bus communication and system reliability.
For inductive / high inrush loads (e.g. solenoid valves, motors, contactors), consider adding suppression, snubber or protection components (diodes, RC networks, fuses) to protect module outputs and connected devices.
Confirm module variant and electrical ratings (voltage, current, insulation, environment) from supplier or documentation before procurement/installation to ensure compatibility and safety.
