Module Overview / Function

  • The ICSI08E3 is a remote I/O slave unit within the Procontic CS31 system, used to gather digital (binary / discrete) input signals — such as switch contacts, relays, sensors, device ON/OFF states — from field devices. The collected signals are transmitted over the CS31 bus (RS-485) to the central controller, enabling remote I/O architecture and distributed signal acquisition.

  • It can be combined with other I/O modules (digital, analog, mixed) on the same CS31 bus, offering flexible and scalable I/O configuration.

Precautions & Recommendations

 

  1. Confirm input signal type and voltage — Ensure that the field device signals (switches, relays, contacts) are compatible with the module’s input specification (e.g. 120 VAC, contact type) before wiring.

  2. Plan bus layout and module addressing carefully — Each remote unit must have a unique address set (rotary switch) to avoid address conflicts on the CS31 bus.

  3. Use appropriate wiring (twisted-pair, shielded if necessary) — For RS-485 communication, use twisted-pair (preferably shielded) cables to ensure signal integrity and reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI).

  4. Power off before install / maintenance / module replacement — Avoid hot-plugging under power to prevent damage or safety hazards.

  5. Observe system capacity limits (number of slave units, bus length, total I/O count) — Although up to 31 slave units are supported, system design must ensure signal integrity, acceptable response times, and stable communication.
